It was yet another good day for Hollywood releases in India as over Rs. 5 crores came in between Oppenheimer and Barbie. Released last week, the films had already done almost Rs. 100 crores business between them in the first week with Oppenheimer contributing majorly with Rs. 72 crores and Barbie bringing in Rs. 26 crores. Now the good run is continuing for these two Hollywood biggies in the second week as well.
As has been the trend in India so far, it’s Oppenheimer which has taken the lead with Rs. 4 crores* more coming on the second Friday. This is not much of a fall when compared to Thursday collections of Rs. 5 crores and from this point in there would be a big jump today and then stability coming in tomorrow. In fact, it won’t be surprising if collections shoot up by almost 50% today, as is the trend with hit Hollywood movies. The Christopher Nolan period drama has already collected Rs. 76 crores* and is progressing well towards the Rs. 100 crores mark.
On the other hand, Barbie is aiming for a lifetime score in Rs. 35-40 crores range. After staying over the Rs. 2 crores mark right through the weekdays, which was good enough for a film belonging to this genre that doesn’t really have many takers in India, the film had a slight decline on the second Friday with Rs. 1.50 crores* coming in. Still, on a regular weekend, this could well have been the first day numbers for the film so what it is collecting is good enough. It’s overall score currently stands at Rs. 27.50 crores* and that has further reaffirmed its verdict as a box office success.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
