Box Office: Chup gathers some pace; Dhokha stays fair on Sunday, slashed ticket prices to help both during the weekdays

By Joginder Tuteja

After collecting better than expected on Friday, things settled down for Chup and Dhokha on Saturday. In fact former was better as it still managed to keep its head above the Rs. 2 crore mark though Dhokha stayed under Rs. 1 crore. Hence, all eyes were on how the two films would turn out to be on Sunday.

As was the case, Chup did gather some pace on Sunday as Rs. 2.25 crores* more came in. This was decent enough for the film since on Saturday it had collected Rs. 2.07 crores, so at least there is reasonable increment in footfalls. So far the film has collected Rs. 7.38 crores* and in way things have balanced out after National Cinema Day had given a huge push in footfalls due to which Rs. 3.06 crores had come in. Without that, the Balki directed psychological crime thriller would have perhaps opened around the Rs. 2 crores mark and then grown evenly to reach the same total.

On the other hand Dhokha saw minimal growth on Sunday as Rs. 0.80 crores* came in. Ideally, the film should have surpassed the Rs. 1 crore mark again on Sunday since one had seen that happening on Friday. The reports for the film are fairly good but then it is playing on a very restricted count of screens. Also, audiences have too many choices available, be it Brahmastra, Chup or even Avatar. Amidst all this competition, the Kookie Gulati directed hostage drama has somehow managed to reach Rs. 2.70 crores* and one waits how things unfold from this point on.

The good news is that the ticket rates have been brought out for both Chup and Dhokha as well right till Thursday, which means added footfalls can be expected. However, all of this would eventually going to work out only if the footfalls are double or triple of what it otherwise would have been during the weekdays because only then the breakeven point would be reached as far as absolute collections are concerned.

*Estimates, Final numbers awaited

Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
