It’s a Hollywood film leading the show as Avatar: The Way of Water is collecting quite well in the second week as well. The weekend has started on a very positive note for the film as Rs 13 crores* came in. This is quite good for a film which had already collected Rs 190 crores in the first week and is still not running out of steam. There was competition from Cirkus as well and still the James Cameron film is dominating the scene.
So far, the film has collected Rs 203 crores* and in the process it has turned out to be the fourth Hollywood film to go past the Rs 200 crores mark in India. The others are Avengers: End Game (Rs 364 crores), Avengers: Infinity War (Rs 226 crores) and
Spider-Man: No Way Home (Rs 218.41 crores). Now the manner in which Avatar: The Way of Water is currently going, it will be the second highest grosser by the close of second weekend itself, and then add a lot more by the time the week is through.
Meanwhile, Cirkus has been impacted big by its Hollywood counterpart. On a regular Friday falling in the festive season, the film would have aimed for Rs 15-20 crores opening day at least. Even with lesser expectations, a number in the range of Rs 10-12 crores was still on the cards. However, the first day has been much below that with Rs 6.50 crores coming in. Now this isn’t something that was on the cards as this one is a big film with very good credentials. With Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh at the helm of affairs, the film certainly deserved better. One just hopes that this happens indeed over the weekend and Bollywood can close 2022 with a smile.
