Akshay Kumar's Toilet - Ek Prem Katha is on a rampage. Enjoying a free flow run at the Box Office, the film collected Rs. 12 crore on Monday which is quite similar to what it collected on the day of release [Rs. 13.10 crore]. The overall total has already reached Rs. 63.45 crore.
It is nothing less than astonishing to see a commercial film with an offbeat subject to demonstrate such solid hold on a weekday [although it was a partial holiday of Janmashtami too]. Though smaller films that take an opening day of Rs. 3-5 crore sometimes manage such stranglehold during the weekdays, one seldom sees a film with a double digit opening to maintain so very well.
The film is going great guns and today it is expected to collect anything over Rs. 18 crore all over again. On Sunday it had collected Rs. 21.25 crore which was huge and now with the big holiday of Independence Day already seeing some remarkable collections already, there are very big numbers expected again by evening shows. What would be interesting to see is how the night shows (post 9 PM) behave since the long weekend of five days is coming to a close and hence there may be some dip at this timeline due to tomorrow being a working day.
Nonetheless, what is definitely on the cards is a five day total going past the Rs. 80 crore which allow it to tower over the Week One numbers of Kaabil [Rs. 79.60 crore] and Akshay's own Jolly LLB 2 [Rs. 77.71 crore]. Next in line for the biggest Week One of 2017 is Tubelight [Rs. 106.86 crore] though that number won't be possible for Toilet - Ek Prem Katha after seven days. However, the Salman Khan starrer crashed big time and folded up with Rs. 120 crore lifetime. That number would be surpassed by the Akshay Kumar starrer in the second weekend itself. After that, it is a matter of going past Raees lifetime of Rs. 137.51 crore.
