Akshay Kumar-Vaani Kapoor’s much awaited action thriller, Bell Bottom, has seen a drop in collections on Monday as early estimates suggest biz in the range of Rs. 1.85 to 1.95 cr., taking the five day total closer to the Rs. 15 cr. mark. While the film has sustained well at single screens, the 30% drop as compared to Day 1 has primarily come at the multiplexes in the metros. But again, these are early estimates, and the final figures will come up tomorrow morning, which can be a little higher depending on how strongly the film has held in the interiors.
The hold in single screen has come because some circuits in the North are still in the Raksha Bandhan mode, resulting in healthy footfalls. The drop in multiplexes is a little alarming, as a film that opened at low levels, it needed to sustain better by recording a Monday similar to Friday to put up a respectable total in the longer run.
A Monday upside of Rs 2.25 crore would have suggested a healthy trend in the longer run, but the drop to levels around the Rs. 2 crore mark is not a healthy sign. The Sunday figures of Bell Bottom had given some hopes of sustenance in the long run. Like we have been saying, it's still not all over for the film, as it can sustain at a lower level and stay steady due to no competition for the coming 2 weeks and put up a decent total. There is still some potential to perform and one must realise that we are still in Covid 19 where no one can predict the trend of a film at the box-office. The five day figures are lower than expected, but we still hope for the film to spring a mighty surprise by sustaining and putting up a respectable total of Rs. 45 cr. plus in the long run. The reviews have been positive and so is the word of mouth which can aid the film in the long run.
Interestingly, Delhi has permitted night shows from today, but that hasn't helped the biz much. However, we continue to wait till morning, as the night show collections in some states will be updated by mid-night, giving a clearer picture if the fifth day total is above our estimate range or not.
