A year and a half after Master, Thalapathy Vijay is back on the big screen with Beast and as expected, the movie co-starring Pooja Hegde has embarked on a record breaking start at the box office. According to early estimates, the movie has smashed all opening day records in Tamil Nadu to collect in the range of Rs. 34 to 36 crore (Gross).
The movie has gone past the opening day collection of previous record holder, Sarkar, which again featured Vijay in the lead. Sarkar had collected Rs. 32 crores in Tamil Nadu and the record has finally been broken four years later by Vijay only. The opening day of Beast can be higher as well, depending on how well the small centers in Tamil Nadu have performed, and the action thriller has the shot of getting closer to the Rs. 40 crore gross mark too.
Beast has also surpassed the opening day of Valimai to emerge the biggest opener of 2022. The Ajith Kumar film had collected Rs. 28 crore on the opening day in Tamil Nadu. The figures of Beast are higher by at-least Rs. 7 crores, and interestingly both the films were non-holiday releases.
With Beast, Thalapathy Vijay has yet again proven that he is the number one star of Tamil cinema at the moment, with a close competition from Rajinikanth and Ajith Kumar. However, the negative point for Beast lies in the fact that the audience reports are outright negative, with major criticism coming in for the 2nd half. Now it all depends on how far Vijay's stardom can pull the film, as the talk and audience word of mouth is negative. Will Vijay take the film past Rs. 135 crore in Tamil Nadu and make it a film in black for distributors? Only time will tell us!
