The Advait Chandan directed film Laal Singh Chaddha starring Aamir Khan hit screens yesterday. Being one of the most anticipated and keenly awaited releases the film has been making headlines in the run-up to its release. In fact, industry buzz was that Laal Singh Chaddha would open on a high note, especially thanks to the festive weekend of Raksha Bandhan. However, contrary to expectations, the Aamir Khan starrer opened on a lacklustre note.
In the overseas markets as well, Laal Singh Chaddha had a moderate start. With competition coming in from the other release in the form of the Akshay Kumar starrer Raksha Bandhan, the division of the audience and screens has taken a toll on the business of Laal Singh Chaddha. In this box office report, we look at the collections of the Aamir Khan film in the overseas markets on Day 1 while comparing it to Aamir’s previous release Thugs of Hindostan.
Thugs of Hindostan also had a Thursday release in 2018 and had a lesser number of screens as compared to Laal Singh Chaddha at Australia and New Zealand box office. Yet, it ended up collecting higher revenue than the latter.
