The much talked about, heavily promoted and keenly anticipated Aamir Khan starrer Laal Singh Chaddha hit screens yesterday. Directed by Advait Chandan the film which is a remake of the Tom Hanks starrer Forrest Gump came with immense expectations attached. In fact, industry buzz was that Laal Singh Chaddha would break the dry spell at the box office, earning around Rs. 15 cr on its opening day. However, contrary to expectations the Aamir Khan starrer has opened on a less than appreciative note with just Rs. 12 cr coming in.
In this box office report, we look at the opening day collections of Laal Singh Chaddha while comparing the same to previous releases of 2022. Collecting Rs. 12 cr the Aamir Khan starrer Laal Singh Chaddha has failed to surpass the collections of Bachchhan Paandey which had collected Rs. 13.25 cr, to emerge as the fifth highest opening day grosser of 2022. Besides this, Laal Singh Chaddha has not managed to out beat other releases as well, like KGF - Chapter 2 which collected Rs. 53.95 cr, RRR which collected Rs. 20.07 cr, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 which collected Rs. 14.11 cr. On the other hand, though, Laal Singh Chaddha has managed to surpass other releases of 2022 like Samrat Prithviraj which collected Rs. 10.70 cr, Gangubai Kathiawadi which collected Rs. 10.50 cr, Shamshera which collected Rs. 10.25 cr, JugJugg Jeeyo which collected Rs. 9.28 cr, and Raksha Bandhan which collected Rs. 8.20 cr. Simultaneously, when compared to non-dubbed Hindi releases Laal Singh Chaddha emerges as the third highest opening day grosser of the year.
Going forward, though the opening day collections of Laal Singh Chaddha have sent shockwaves through the industry what has shaken the industry to the core is the fact that the film is unlikely to see much growth. Trade opines that with the Rakshabandhan holiday and Independence Day holiday aiding the film with an extended festive weekend, the collections of Laal Singh Chaddha will be far lower than initial expectations.
