The IMAX format has emerged as a real crowd-puller with each passing year. Earlier, Hollywood films were the only ones getting a release in IMAX. But in the last decade, Indian films, too, started having a release in the premium format, and it has gotten a great response. In 2025, 43 IMAX format films got a release, including a record 11 Indian titles. The total collection of these films was a whopping 25.60 million USD gross (approx. Rs. 124.44 crores) from 31 screens. The 2024 figure stood at 14.50 million USD gross, and this clearly proves how the IMAX format’s popularity is increasing with each passing year in our country.

Bollywood Hungama, in this exclusive and special box office report, will list the top 10 films in IMAX in 2025 in India. The film at the position is F1: The Movie. The Brad Pitt-starrer had an extended run in IMAX for many months. It was pretty common to see the film running with full or nearly-full occupancy in IMAX cinemas even on weekdays. It collected Rs. 102.22 crores at the Indian box office, out of which earnings from IMAX were 3.883 million USD gross (approx. Rs. 35.55 crores).
This was followed by Avatar: Fire And Ash. It collected more than F1: The Movie in India, earning around Rs. 200.05 crores (and counting). At the beginning of the year, it was expected by one and all that the James Cameron-directorial would be the top IMAX film by miles. Surprisingly, it earned 2.505 million USD gross (approx. Rs. 22.93 crores), which is nearly Rs. 13 crores less than F1: The Movie.

Interstellar (2014) created history; despite being a re-release, it took up the fourth spot, thus proving yet again that Christopher Nolan’s fans are increasing gradually in India. Initially, the film was re-released on February 7, 2025, for a one-week run. But the demand was tremendous and hence, it was brought back after a month. In its re-release, it collected nearly Rs. 29 crores. In IMAX, it earned 1.736 million USD gross (approx. Rs. 15.89 crores).
