Shortkut is a remake of the 2005 Malayalam blockbuster Udayananu Tharam starring Mohanlal. What’s quite funny is, for a movie on plagiarism, the script of the Malayalam film itself was heavily inspired by Hollywood movies like Big Fat Liar (2002) and Bowfinger (1999). Neeraj Vora’s Phir Hera Pheri might have worked at the box-office but that was more due to the characters, and the hype being a sequel to the most endearing cult comedy of our times. Shortkut’s script had potential, but goes wasted. The first half starts off well, but with the song picturized on Amirta and Akshaye, it begins to fall apart. You desperately hope it picks up, but it doesn’t. The direction and writing in the second half of the film, completely ruins what looked like a decent comedy from the trailers. If you indeed decide to watch this, make sure you walk out an hour into the second half, as the climax is terrible. The sole reason for Amrita’s presence is to add a touch of glamour, and rightly so as the makers have to cater to a large section of audience. But frankly, the romantic angle wasn’t required, infact Shorkut would have been a better watch without Amrita’s character. The songs were decent, well picturized, but add zero value to the movie. Some dialogues were funny while most weren’t. Cinematography was good. Akshaye Khanna, the most under-rated actor in Bollywood, comes up with a fabulous performance once again, he’s the sole reason you could sit through this. Amrita Rao’s wasted, absolutely nothing to do, except dance and look good. Arshad Warsi isn’t consistent and for a change, he should think of doing something different. Haider Ali (writer of Jodha Akbar) is good. Chunkey Pandey too does well. Overall, this is yet another mindless entertainer, just that it seriously lacks star-power. Arshad could be King Kumar in the second half of Shortkut, but sadly only few are capable of turning FLOP scripts into HIT films and Arshad certainly isn’t one. Only Akshay himself could have saved this and that’s probably the only ‘Shortkut’ director Neeraj Vohra could have taken!

Huh tough to say anything. Ending is somewhere okay. Starting is boring. Arshad is not like always, this is not at all his best (even not good). He doesn't look good as an actor in movie. Amrita is okay. Akki has done good job. Story writing is weak. In total it's somewhere boring and somewhere time-pass.

Dear Taran, You are a guy who is in this industry for long and how can u make such a mistake. U wrote that the (SHORT KUT, a remake of the Malayalam film UDAYANANU THANAM, written by Anees Bazmee). This is completely worng. The film is a remake, thats true but not written by Anees Bazmee. How can he show his name in the credits when he has not written the film at all ? Isiko bolte hain chori. Simple and plain chori I didnot expect Taran to make such a mistake in his review. Anand

I am very easy going, because movies put a lot of hard work in to making a movie, so it's hard to say "this is a bad film" Overall it drags and gets boring and they try to hard to be funny. Amrita Rao has changed her look, she sizzles, Akshaye Khanna is excellent, the concept is very good honestly but movie is pretty horrible, not a single good music track on the album, just wait till comes out on dvd. Arshad Warsi doesn't have funny lines, only in the begining. Chunky Pandey cannot act, I donot know why is he in movies. I haven't seen a single good Chunky Pandey movie since Vishwatma, that was ages ago.

It's a simple movie with some really funny scenes. All actors are really good. To Amrita: she is such a talented actress, they could get the most out of her in acting skills not of her body. The role was a waste of her talent.

Excellent! No question about it! The movie was in my opinion the best film of the year. Neeraj Vora planned the script brilliantly and showed that experience makes a man perfect. He has previously penned Priyadarshan's films and has always been successful and appreciated. The first half was hillarious and you need to keep your brains aside and enjoy the rollercoaster ride of jokes. But the second half was when this became my favorite movie of the year. I have seen many reviews and most of them said that they didn't like the movie, and i get why that is, it's because those people either don't understand an intellectual script or don't got brains. If you think its a movie like partner, welcome, hera pheri, You are wrong! This is the finest comedy with only a simple message which a few people will get, i.e. "One might steal your work but cannot steal your talent". The movie and its message moved me so much that almost half of my problematic thoughts vanished. It meant that if you have talent, no matter how much someone steals you can produce even much better. Only someone who has talent or does hardwork will get the movie and the others will just keep thinking. Do's and Dont's Do: Understand what the director is trying to tell Do: Critically analyze the real meaning of the dialogues Do: Respect someone's talent! (THE MESSAGE OF THE MOVIE) Dont: Expect a full laughathon Dont: Expect stupidity and brainlessness all the time Dont: Expect a film like Hera Pheri or Phir Hera Pheri Dont: Just say it was bad until you understand it! The Ratings: Neeraj's Direction was brilliant: 10/10 Neeraj's Dialogues were hillarious but also thought you something: 11/10 Anees Bazmee's story and screenplay was fine: 9/10 Music, especially the background score was brilliant: 10/10 Akshay Khanna was at his best: 10/10 Arshad was good as usual but over acted in parts: 9/10 Amrita Rao was not really good: 6/10 Chunkey Pandey was great: 9/10 Ali Asghar was wasted: 5/10 The editing was okay but could be better: 8/10 BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY THE DIRECTION AND DIALOGUES NEED A STANDING OVATION AND DESERVE TO GO INTO THE OSCARS!! FILMS LIKE THESE NEVER DO WELL AT THE BOX OFFICE, AND INSTEAD STUPID FILMS LIKE KAMBAKKHT ISHQ BECOME BLOCKBUSTERS!!! IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT THE BOX OFFICE TELLS, IF YOU ARE SOMEONE WITH TALENT AND UNDERSTAND DIFFICULT THINGS THE MOVIE IS FOR YOU!! BUT IF YOU LOOK FOR SIMPLE MEANINGS AND BRAINLESS COMEDY GET OUT AFTER THE FIRST HALF!!! THE ONE AND ONLY THING IS GUYS GO FOR IT!!!!!!! IT WILL SURELY NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! PLUS YOU WILL LEARN SOMETHING INSTEAD! A MUST WATCH!
