Om Shanti Om (OSO) will get 3 kinds of responses from the audience - find it really stupid; love it; love the first half, find the second half average. I fall into the 3rd category.
The first half of OSO is full of puns and spoofs. But to understand those, you’ve to be a complete hindi movie buff. As an example take the ‘Sooraj Barjataya’ scene, or the scene where SRK says he’ll buy Rajesh Kapoor’s (read Rajesh Khanna’s) bungalow. It also has a lot of PJ’s, like the ‘Manoj Kumar’ one. The ‘Filmfare Award Ceremony’ scene is one of the best - great work by AB Jr. and Khiladi Kumar. And SRK playing the south-indian hero is a must watch.
The movie had me in splits till the ‘Deewangi’ song. After that, it’s pretty much downhill. Arjun Rampal looks good, whereas SRK is a bundle of overacting in the second half. Deepika Padukone’s innocent face is mesmerizing all throughout. Kiron Kher and Shreyas Talpade are very competent.
Songs are really good and keep you entertained.
WARNING: Leave your brains in a closet while watching OSO.
