Just before posting this blog, I checked the dictionary meaning of idiot - I guess, it's time to re-think on it after watching "3 Idiots". They are funny, witty, out of mind but most importantly they carry a heart, a passion and a different outlook to life that most of the students (even normal people) miss out on routine life.
After successful Munnabhai films - Raju Hirani tries a different script; though a challenging one with 3 Idiots. With original book (5 point someone) already being a bestseller, expectations and comparisons are bound to happen. However this one proves again that Raju is a brilliant story teller and director. He has found a fantastic formula of emotions and laughter to give a perfect dose of entertainment to its audience without being much complex.
It's a story of 3 room-mates in IIT and their journey from being a normal engineering student (who starts its semester with ragging) and ends up discovering and fulfilling their dreams. Raju (Sharman), Rancho (Amir) and Farhan (Paddy) enters into IIT life with lots of expectations only to discover that life is a race and no matter what you want - you have to win it to survive. Then you have" Virus" Boman Irani and Piya - Kareena Kapoor. I think it will be fun to watch the story on silver screen than reading it here.
We bound to make comparison to FPS (book) - however Hirani has cleverly molded the story to make it his own way. The original book speaks more about lives, routines and ambitions of engineers - whereas 3i make it "larger than life" (well, that's what people likes to see). Though you can relate to various scene which have directly taken from book - but they merely serve as reference than forming the entire movie.
Aamir is the heart of the movie - without a doubt. He has played a character with utmost conviction, enthusiasm and confidently. Not for a moment you feel he is playing a character half of his age but his charm and idiotic presence gives the character a college-boy look. One more feather in his cap where he has shown once again his diversity in the acting. He is really becoming a school of acting by himself. Sharman is first rate who plays the character with depth. Madhavan is also convincing in his performance. Kareena plays a love interest of Aamir and she looks ravishing in the song with Amir (zooby-dooby). The only bit of disappointment comes in way of Boman where I felt that his character was not sharp enough and lacked the layers. It was very one sided and he kept playing a hard-hitting principal without showing any strong reasons of his thinking. Javed Jaffery does play a small cameo without too much of impact. The surprise package of the film is Chatur - he delivers a superb performance.
More importantly - you leave a hall with lots of smiles, laughter and good feeling which is the USP of Raju's script. You can't stop laughing about the scene where Chatur gives the speech which was tampered by Rancho. Even the climax - where Rancho re-engineers the vacuum cleaner for baby birth. The scene where Rancho completes Joy's design and in a process to gift it to him - founds him dead, leaves a definite impact on you. Though it has touched the subject of over-pressurizing and it's effect on young engineers, but it hasn't lost its way to become a issue-related movie. Instead, it has given a simple message to do what your heart says.
I am going to give 4 out of 5 to VVC's 3 idiots. Go and watch it for sheer laughter, fun and energy. You would leave the hall by saying - All is Well!!!
