Shah Rukh Khan takes Rani Mukerji’s help to deliver speech in Bengali at KIFF; wins hearts, watch

Amid the controversy around Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan recently attended the opening ceremony of the 28th Kolkata International Film Festival. While a handful of hate campaigns against his upcoming film Pathaan have been erupting, the actor won hearts in Kolkata by delivering a speech in Bengali. And, guess who helped him with it? His Kuch Kuch Hota Hai co-star Rani Mukerji.

For the unversed, on Thursday morning, Shah Rukh and Rani were spotted together at the Mumbai airport. The duo jetted off to attend the opening ceremony of KIFF.

 

While delivering a speech, Shah Rukh said, “Aaj mere nishane par Rani Mukerji aa gayi. Toh unko maine phasa kar, pata kar, unsey maine puri Bengali speech likhwai hai (I met Rani Mukerji today. I trapped her and made her write the entire speech in Bengali).”

 

“To Agar mai acha bolu toh meri waah waah kijiyega (If I do it properly, you can praise me), and if I do it badly it's Rani’s fault,” he asserted further. Apart from giving a dose of laughter to the crowd, the 57-year-old actor also addressed the hate Pathaan is getting online. During his speech, he said, “The collective narrative of our times is shaped by social media. Contrary to the belief that social media will affect cinema negatively, I believe cinema has an even more important role to play now.”

 

He further added, “We haven't been able to meet for a while, but the world is becoming normal now. We are all happy and I am the happiest. And I have no qualms in saying, that no matter what the world does, me and you, and all positive people in the world are ALIVE.”

 

Talking about Pathaan, the spy-thriller is slated to release on January 25, 2023.
