Drishyam 2 Box Office: Ajay Devgn starrer embarks on a winning start collecting Rs. 15.38 cr on Day 1; has in it to become really big

Finally, after Brahmastra, there is a Bollywood film which has opened big enough to promise a solid hit in the making and a potential super hit as well. On its release, Drishyam had done well theatrically but hadn’t quite met its true box office potential. The film was a straight forward Rs. 100 Crore Club film in the making but surprisingly closed in the 70s. However, what worked on its favour was huge recall value. Over the years it turned into a cult film with continued popularity on satellite as well as OTT medium. Moreover, there was a lot of chatter around that amongst ‘aam junta’.

That’s the reason why when Drishyam 2 was announced; it found instant attention coming its way. Even though the Malayalam original had arrived on OTT, there was very good curiosity to check out what the Hindi version had to offer. The makers (Kumar Mangat, Abhishek Pathak) strategized well to open early advance booking which further found media traction and the last few days there was amazing momentum that the film gained with advance booking turning out to be best ever of 2022 after Brahmastra.

 

The results were there to be seen with Rs. 15.38 crores coming in, which is a very good number. This is far beyond what one may have thought of till a week back, though in all fairness to the film, the brand warrants a start in this range. It’s just that 2022 has been very lopsided towards low numbers and in this scenario when numbers as good as these come which are as per pre-pandemic levels (and in fact even more considering the genre), there is a very good reason to rejoice. This Ajay Devgn led suspense drama is a biggie in the making.
