Do Baaraa Box Office Estimate Day 1: Taapsee Pannu starrer opens lower than Kangana Ranaut's Dhaakad; collects Rs. 35 lakhs

With many releases this year, Taapsee Pannu is back on the big screen with the thriller Do Baaraa helmed by Anurag Kashyap. The film is an Indian remake of the Spanish film Mirage. The film which was released today in theatres tells the story spanning 26 years about one mystery. The film is set in a horror thriller genre which also has mind-bending theories and the genesis of time travel which is a novel concept.

As the film hit the screens, morning shows saw a very low occupancy in single digits with some shows being cancelled for lack of audience. While one expected footfalls to escalate later in the evening, but the audience did not turn up in the expected numbers.

 

With hardly any advance bookings and a lack of marketing buzz, the film’s collections on Day 1 [Friday] seem to be around Rs. 30-35 lakhs which is lower than the predicted opening day of around Rs. 40 to 50 lakhs. The Day 1 number is more or less in the same range as Taapsee’s previous release Shabaash Mithu which had collected Rs. 40 lakhs on Day 1. To put things in perspective, Shabaash Mithu has also opened less than Kangana Ranaut’s Dhaakad which had collected Rs. 55 lakhs on Day 1.

 

While the film has received mixed reviews, only time will tell how it fares at the box office considering last week’s two big releases Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan are also tanking in theatres.
