Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par opens at Rs. 10.50 cr. on Day 1; a heartwarming start for a heartfelt film
The Aamir Khan social comedy, Sitaare Zameen Par, has taken a decent start at the box office in India. According to early estimates, Sitaare Zameen Par has collected in the range of Rs. 10 crores to Rs. 11 crores on the opening day, faring better than the expected projections of Rs. 8 crores. The Aamir Khan film has been received well, and the start gives it a platform to perform well over the weekend.
Sitaare Zameen Par has fared the best in multiplexes, as the national chains are contributing 65 percent to the total business. The film has set up well for a surge on Saturday, as the advance trends are already reflecting for the same. Sitaare Zameen Par is a risky film in modern world, as it is devoid of the conventionally commercial elements, and riding on the shoulders of just one man and that is Aamir Khan. The start is reasonable, with business growing well towards the evening and night shows.
From a trade perspective, Sitaare Zameen Par is not a conventional Friday release chasing front-loaded numbers. With a niche subject focused on ten neurodivergent children and minimal commercial trappings, the Rs. 10.50 cr. opening is not just respectable - it’s encouraging. The real test begins now, as the film is built to grow with strong word of mouth and emotional connect. Theatres are the only platform for this Aamir Khan starrer - a bold move in today’s OTT-driven landscape. The focus now shifts to Saturday and Sunday, where the film is expected to show an upward trend and find its audience the old-school way - through love for cinema.
