Not very long ago, a film with an attractive face-value and enjoying positive reports would run to packed houses throughout the week. Times have changed. It's weekend business that we look at today. If a film fares well in its opening weekend, don't expect it to have equally strong collections for the next four days [Monday - Thursday] as well. The theatre occupancy [on those days] drops to as low as 25% at times. I am referring to multiplexes here.

While HULCHUL was strong during its second weekend, it wasn't as sturdy on the next four days. But that doesn't mean the movie isn't a success story. It is!
'V-Z' MAKES MORE MONEY OVERSEAS
Now that the talk on VEER-ZAARA has calmed down, let's get to the outcome. The film will make more money in Overseas than India. In fact, the theatrical business in Overseas is so big [the film has already grossed Rs. 25.5 crores from just two markets - U.S.A. and U.K.] that Yashraj must be feeling on top of the world.
In India, the film has faced an alarming drop, after the first two weeks to be precise. Reasons: One, the excessive number of prints in circulation. Two, the excessive length. Three, the show timings at several places have made a dent. Four, the slow-paced narrative.
In the domestic market, Mumbai should rake in the maximum moolah, followed by North India. Overall, the film has proved a profitable venture, despite mixed reports.
XMAS RELEASES RESHUFFLED
With AB TUMHARE HAWALE WATAN SATHIYO finally arriving on December 24 [the army personnel have cleared the film], a number of films already scheduled on that date have been shifted ahead. Have a look:
- Vashu Bhagnani has already shifted VAADA to January 7…
- ROG has also been shifted to January 7 [it's a tentative date, it might be shifted further]…
- DIL MAANGE MORE is confirmed for December 24, but one of its distributors is apprehensive of taking on a big opposition like A.T.H.W.S…
- PADMASHREE LALOO PRASAD YADAV has been fixed for December 31…
- HO SAKTA HAI is now scheduled for January 7/14…
- SHAADI KARKE PHAS GAYA YAAR has also been shifted to January. It is slated for release in the same week as KISNA and BLACK - January 21…
