The David Dhawan directed film Judwaa 2 starring Varun Dhawan released last week on Friday. The film which is a remake of the Salman Khan starrer Judwaa that had released earlier also features Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles. After opening on a high note Judwaa 2 has continued its dominance at the box office.
In this box office report we take a look at the opening weekend collections of Judwaa 2 while comparing the same to Varun Dhawan’s previously released films. Collecting Rs. 59.25 cr. Judwaa 2 has become Varun Dhawan’s highest opening weekend grosser. Although the actor’s other release Dilwale had raked in Rs. 65.09 cr on its opening weekend the film did not feature Varun as the sole lead, and hence has been dropped from this list. However, Judwaa 2 does manage to surpass Varun’s other releases like ABCD - Any Body Can Dance 2 that collected Rs. 46.35 cr, Badrinath Ki Dulhania that collected Rs. 43.05 cr, Dishoom that collected Rs. 37.32 cr, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania that collected Rs. 33.74 cr, Student of the Year that had collected Rs. 30 cr, Badlapur that collected Rs. 23.5 cr, and Main Tera Hero that had collected Rs. 22.73 cr.
Given the fact that Judwaa 2 fast filled the vacuum in entertainment left by the previous week’s releases underperforming and that the film enjoys an added advantage of Monday being a national holiday, all that remains to be seen is whether Judwaa 2 manages to cross the Rs. 60 cr mark within the first 5 days.
