John Abraham is in the news… not for the right reasons though. Known for his drop-dead good looks, the talented actor has come in for sharp criticism for looking exhausted in BAABUL. That’s not all, in KABUL EXPRESS, several reviewers and moviegoers have gone to the extent of saying that the actor has been relegated to the backseat, with Arshad Warsi and Pakistani actor Shahid Salman walking away with the best lines and scenes.

Any other actor in John’s place would’ve started offering excuses, but John is honest enough to admit the pitfalls. “BAABUL had been in the making for almost two years and I had my share of problems in the intervening period, starting with typhoid, asthmatic bronchitis and an accident that injured my foot. You don’t look your best when you’re ill, do you? I am not blaming anyone except my sickness. I was looking worn-out and it showed on screen,” John confesses.

Tell John that he isn’t in form in KABUL EXPRESS either and the actor says that debutante director Kabir Khan didn’t cheat him by narrating one thing and filming something else altogether. “The brief given to me by the makers was that this guy [his character in the film] is the silent, but strong types. In fact, he takes all the crucial decisions in the film. But, I admit, Arshad has a role and the lines that works with viewers,” he states graciously.

John isn’t dejected by the KABUL EXPRESS experience. “I don’t have a problem with the film. I don’t have a problem with Kabir [director] or Arshad either. In fact, Arshad and I make a wonderful team. Had there been problems, we wouldn’t be working in GOAL again. Believe me, I am really looking forward to working with Arshad,” he clears the air.

Continuing on the same topic, he elaborates, “I followed the brief given by the director honestly. I didn’t demand more, I didn’t get less. I stand by the movie and everyone associated with it.” Right attitude, John!
