Hema’s take on her daughters

She made her directorial debut with DIL AASHNA HAI more than a decade ago. Hema Malini, the Numero Uno star of 1970s and 1980s, is keen to direct a film again. “Times were different then. Directing a film and handling the responsibility of film production was tough then. But things are much easier today. People are more accessible and professional,” she smiles radiantly.
There were reports that she’s keen to cast Rekha and Esha together in her film. There’s also talk that a prominent director had approached the real-life mother-daughter combination of Hema-Esha to star in his film. “People want to see Esha and me together. That’s an ambition I wish to fulfill some day. As for the film I wish to make, its script is still not complete,” she admits.
Rumors are rife that younger daughter Ahana is ready to face the camera. “I really wish these rumors were true. But I don’t like to force my decision on the kids. In fact, Ahana has enrolled in Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods and is learning editing and direction. She wants to make films some day. It’s her wish, after all,” the proud mother states.
Hema also feels that Esha has grown as an actor. “She was good in a small part in MAIN AISA HI HOON. It was a tough role to portray. I also liked her performance in ANKAHEE. And now she’s trying out something different in CASH. It’s her first out-and-out action role,” she adds.
