The ‘Baabul’ – ‘Jaan-E-Mann’ pact Click here to add this article to My Clips

The producers of BAABUL and JAAN-E-MANN have decided not to step on to each other’s toes. Let me explain…

Both BAABUL and JAAN-E-MANN are slated for a November release. Completely clueless about the release date of BAABUL, Sajid Nadiadwala, the producer of JAAN-E-MANN, took the initiative of calling up Ravi Chopra [the maker of BAABUL] to enquire about his film’s release date. “It’s pointless to clash with your brethren. Why should our films fight with each other? Why not pick up the phone and discuss the issue? That’s precisely why I called Ravi Chopra,” Sajid tells me.

The producer of HAR DIL JO PYAAR KAREGA, MUJHSE SHAADI KAROGI and JAAN-E-MANN continues in the same vein, “Both BAABUL and JAAN-E-MANN have the same Overseas distributor [Adlabs] and it wouldn’t make sense to place both the films in the same week. The business would get divided, the audience would also be alienated. When the stakes are so high, does it make sense to cut into each other’s business?”

So what transpired in the telephonic conversation? “Ravi told me that he was planning to release BAABUL in the first/second week of November. That’s when I decided to place JAAN-E-MANN on November 17. That’s the final date for the film,” Sajid reveals.

Apparently, JAAN-E-MANN has been delayed due to Salman’s dates going topsy-turvy. “Not at all! I will be completing the shooting of JAAN-E-MANN today [July 12]. I could’ve released JAAN-E-MANN on August 25, but with Ramzan in September and some major releases in October [DON, DHOOM 2, UMRAO JAAN], I decided to place JAAN-E-MANN on November 17. Pushing the film forward is purely my decision, no one else should be held responsible for it,” Sajid clarifies.

P.S.: It’s JAAN-E-MANN now, not JAANEMANN. “I decided to add two hyphens after JAAN and E because it’s easy to pronounce the title. It has nothing to do with numerology,” Sajid divulges.
