Yash Raj Films hikes its ticket prices Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, May 20, 2006 - 03:09 IST

Apart from Fanaa’s release just around the corner, Yash Raj Films also has the distribution rights of some of the biggest films this year. Krissh, Kabhie Alvida Naa Kehna and of course their own production Dhoom 2 to name a few! Clearly, the production house is the big daddy of Bollywood, and they’re making sure that everyone knows that.

Their distribution division has asked all the multiplexes in the country, for a higher share in the profits. And if they don’t do so, they will not be allowed to exhibit their films. What this means to the average cine-goer is that he will have to shell out more cash to watch a Yash Raj Film. Apparently, weekend rates at multiplexes might go as high as Rs.225.

This move is finding a lot of opposition from the cinema owners. With the production house demanding a higher cut, the audience will have to bear the brunt of the revised prices. Some exhibitors are accusing the Chopras of making unfair demands. The production house on the other hand, justifies this move by stating that their production values are very high. They pump in crores of rupees in a film and deserve a higher cut. And while this tussle between the two sides continues, the only loser is the audience.
