Of late we have been seeing a replica of the Perfectionist Khan at every mall and cinema hall in the country. However, how many of us have inquired about the 'men' behind the 'mannequins'? Well, Bollywood Hungama did just that and spoke to the master creators, Nitin Gorde and Kedar Ghate, about these masterpieces and more...
How did you guys get this contract to make Aamir's replicas? We had a mutual friend who was working with the production team on the film Ghajini. It was during a casual chat that he said that they needed to promote the film with certain props. That's when we proposed the idea to make a POP (Plaster Of Paris) statue of Aamir's look in film. From there, we took off with this venture making about 40 replicas of the same.
So, any plans to work on more such promotions for other films? We can't actually say anything about this. However, we are always open to do things like this. And if we are approached to do something on the similar lines, then, yes, we will surely do so.

What was your experience of working with Aamir Khan like? It was simply enjoyable. Aamir made us feel so comfortable that we had no problems whatsoever. He actually liked our concept so much that he willingly offered to help by providing images and even posing for the same so that our sculptors could design the statue with details. In the end, when he finally saw the replica, his only reaction was, "Wow! This is fantastic". The rest was all said by his look and his body language.
What was the process of creating the statue like? The process is a long one. First we started off by making a basic replica in mud and later taking it to the clay stage. In this stage, the mud replica is converted into a clay structure and later transformed into a POP do. The process itself includes various teams which work on different parts. Initially, there is the basic design then the modeling, which is followed by the formation. The last step is the final POP version of the same.
So, who came up with the basic concept of the Aamir statue? It was not an individual decision. We were told that in the initial stages, it would be a replica of Aamir in the sitting position, as seen in the film posters. However, we noticed that this would not be visible enough. We rethought the concept and hence the decided to create standees. While on the other hand, Aamir himself was pretty happy with the ideation process and decided to help with the designing.
