They say don't judge a book by its cover. True to the saying, the year gone by 2012 saw some of the good covers which were awesome while some were plain simply awful. We do agree that making a cover is not as easy as saying 'A-B-C', as there are a million things that need to be taken care of. Right from the photographer, to the stylist to the c-ordinator... everyone has a job to do. Satish Sundaresan of Bollywood Hungama traces down the best and the not so best magazine covers of the year gone, by ranking them from 1-5 (1 being the lowest and 5 the highest).
Deepika Padukone in Women's Health
Over the years, Deepika Padukone has evolved from being a model to an actress to a super fit individual and how! Be it her films or her brand endorsements, she has always shown the audience that she has a figure to die for! The same holds true even as she posed as the cover girl of 'Women's Health' magazine. Full marks to her for maintaining the dignity, poise and grace for which she is always known!
Shahid Kapoor in The Man
It's not every day that one gets to see Shahid do a Salman. Well, we are talking about going topless. Even though this issue cover page had Shahid go topless, he fully justified his masculinity by flexing his biceps that was served with his trademark icy mint smile!
Cover Rating: 4.5/ 5 - Sonam Kapoor in Grazia While lots has been written and said about Sonam’s impeccable sense of styling and dressing, Read More">what really shocked everyone is HOW Sonam could afford to look bad on the cover image. Sonam Kapoor in Grazia
While lots has been written and said about Sonam's impeccable sense of styling and dressing, what really shocked everyone is HOW Sonam could afford to look bad on the cover image. The least that one could have done was to have her pose straight in front of the camera as she is someone who really knows how to play with the camera. Next time Sonam, we really expect the real 'you'!
Leander Paes in Hi! Blitz
Agreed that the tennis ace Leander Paes really knows how to play with the bat! But, what he should learn is to how to play with the camera! Despite the fact that he looks good on the court, hiring a stylist will really help him a lot.
Cover Rating: 1/5 - Lisa Haydon in Verve Not much can be said about the cover that failed to live up to the expectations from the hottie named Lisa Haydon. Even though the Lisa’s image does full justice to her luscious lips and icy eyes, Read More">there’s nothing in it for one to go Ga-Ga about. Period. SRK in GoodRead More
Lisa Haydon in Verve
Not much can be said about the cover that failed to live up to the expectations from the hottie named Lisa Haydon. Even though the Lisa's image does full justice to her luscious lips and icy eyes, there's nothing in it for one to go Ga-Ga about. Period.
SRK in Good Housekeeping
There was a quote by Neha Dhupia - 'There are only two things that sells in Bollywood: Sex and SRK''. We do agree that anything that SRK touches turns gold, but with his look on this cover, we really want to make an exception.
Cover Rating: 2/5 - Arjun Rampal in OK! Arjun Rampal in OK!
For the cover page of this issue, Arjun, who got dressed in a Rohit Bal white shirt paired with black shorts and a Try Costa black tie, looks his usual self with those dreamy eyes ready for a chase!
This cover was ample proof enough for those who wanted to know why Arjun qualifies to be a poster boy, even after so many years in Bollywood.
Katrina Kaif in Cosmopolitan
There's no arguing as to it was Katrina Kaif who ruled the whole of 2012. Be it her brand endorsements or her films, she escalated her career by notches this year. No wonder then, she was the most preferred cover girl of the year by all the magazines. Here, even though she sports her typically quintessential Katina Kaif smile, her hair and make-up could have been much better!
Cover Rating: 2.5/5 - Karisma Kapoor in Marie Claire When any actress decides her ‘retirement’ from Bollywood, it really becomes tough for her to make a ‘comeback’. Karisma Kapoor in Marie Claire
When any actress decides her 'retirement' from Bollywood, it really becomes tough for her to make a 'comeback'. But, in the case of the original 'Rani Hindustani', it's really different. She made a 'comeback' with films and brand endorsements as if she had never quit the scene at all! This issue of Marie Claire is self explanatory of the fact that despite being away for so many years from the silver screen and greasepaint, she still looks like one of the front runners! Karisma Kapoor, in disheveled silky hair and pearl ornaments (Kundal) added ever more beauty to this doe eyed dame!
Jacqueline Fernandez in L'Officiel
This model turned actress, who once wanted to be a journalist, is slowly climbing the ladder of success in Bollywood. In a very short time, this stunner has really learnt the P's and Q's of the tinsel town. Even though this edition of the magazine shows Jacqueline in full bloom, we only feel that it's about time that she hires a good stylist!
