Dabboo Ratnani is brimming with timeless ideas and unique collaborative concepts. In the first of the two part Bollywood Hungama exclusive slideshow on Dabboo's 2015 Calendar, Faridoon Shahryar brings you, perspective from Ratnani on six pictures from his latest calendar. Alia Bhatt

Alia'a picture makes for a very captivating look. Many would say it's a wonderful idea but why has no one thought about it?

When we do a close-up picture we think about some kind of detail that we can add to it. Maybe the eye makeup, the lip makeup, element like water or something dramatic. It's a very strong close-up of a face with a very high contrast black and white tinge to it. It wasn't entirely my idea. Alia also came up with this idea. When I speak to actors I like to take some feedback from them about the concept. Alia said we should do something with water. We brainstormed. For such a shot you need a particular kind of lighting, fast lenses for the water to freeze.

Very interesting makeup with the Kajal and the lips are very red. Who did the makeup?

The makeup was done by Subu. He is a fantastic makeup and hair person. It was his idea to keep the eyes strong. First we had a lighter lip color, then we went more deeper and brighter. Through the transparency of the water you see the red popping out very nicely.

Sonakshi's picture looks like a collage of selfie kind of pictures. Was that the idea?

Sonakshi Sinha's picture is more like a photo booth kind of a picture. When we used to shoot on film, we used to have a contact sheet which used to have 36 pictures in 1 sheet. I did such kind of a thing with John Abraham before. With Sonakshi, it seems like the camera is placed on a tripod and she is kept it on a self-click and going 'tuk-tuk-tuk-tuk'! It's like how you walk into a passport photo studio when you go abroad where you click your own picture. So, that's the concept adopted in this picture.

Jacqueline's picture has a lot of appeal to especially because the idea stays in your mind. Is it one of your best pictures ever?

Jacqueline's picture is definitely one of my best. It is a very appealing picture. It is very hot but doesn't expose a lot of skin. It's just the thought of the towel with a lot left to imagination and the way she is jumping and the way the towel is flapping gives the picture a very sensual and raw appeal. And Jacqueline is a superb model. Also, she jumped hundreds of times on the bed, including with me, Manisha and my children! We had a cardio session happening on the bed! And yes, the bed is still intact!

There's a wonderful symmetry in this picture in terms of the way her legs are angled during the jump, the way her hair are on the top. Would you agree?

I had to also make sure that every time she jumps, I have to shoot the flash at exactly the same micro second. The timing of the jump and the clicking of the shutter had to happen absolutely in sync. This required technical knowledge because there are lots of lights which can blur images, especially if it's not absolutely perfect. Lighting, fast lenses, sync of jumping and clicking - all those things were put together in this picture.

Shraddha still doesn't have this sexy sexy image to her. But when you look at this picture, the backless look, the wavy windswept hair. Do you feel this can give an image shift to Shraddha within the industry?

Many of my Calendar pictures in the past have given image shift to many people. One of them I clearly remember is Vidya Balan. First time I shot with her many years ago, people have only perceived her as an Indian beauty. I took it to the next level and told her you can look hot. She asked I can really pull this off. I said for sure you can pull this off. Same with Shraddha. This is the first time she has featured in my Calendar. She has got a great body. I've seen her in Indian clothes, even in a Sari you can see the way her body looks. I thought of shooting her as a back shot since the time I decided about the Calendar shot. Someone who has a great back, we must do a back shot. I gave her some ideas. She was very very happy with the ideas. I hope it changes her image. I think she looks fabulous. She has a great face, very very emotive. Great energy. Very hard working. She is going to go a long way.

Pari and me were chatting and discussing what to do. Last year's picture got an insane reaction. There was a pressure to outdo that picture. We discussed what should we do this year. In Hollywood every single actress has shot at some point of time in a man's white shirt. I have shot with many actresses in a white shirt. This white shirt concept came in the picture, we added a tie. I asked why don't you sit in the tub. She wore my watch, man's white shirt with a man's watch and a cigar. Very masculine in those ways and yet sexy. I let her hair open.
