Plagiarism, copyright infringement and downright copying have been plaguing the fashion industry for a while now, perhaps because it is so hard to define the rightful intellectual property and there is such a thin line between plagiarism and "inspiration"! There have been way too many incidents, all you need to do is run a search and you'll see, but then, there isn't an easy solution to this issue.
Today, we look at a couple of appearances that our Indian actresses have made wearing a creation by Indian designers, which if not thoroughly copied, definitely makes you do a double take.
Preity Zinta in Surily A style icon like Preity surprised us when she wore a Dior gown from the Spring 2007 collection to the red carpet of The Last Lear and then a few weeks later wore a very similar gown to the Vogue lunch party in Udaipur. We thought she wore Dior again, but turned out that it was a "Surily Goel" creation.
Gul Panag in Mandira Wirk Gul Panag wore a peach Mandira Wirk to the SET Stardust Awards last year. Although the neckline was a little different, one cannot miss the similarities between her gown and the "Herve Leger" gown that Emily Blunt wore to the SAG Awards.
Kangana in Rick Roy The pink and purple gown that Kangana wore to the Stardust Awards, probably was the most shocking copy that we saw last year. Inspired by Valentino's Spring 2008 collection, the gown made our jaws drop when we laid eyes on it!
Malaika Arora Khan in Surily Surily's wrap dress was a great piece but looking at the Hermes collection, one sure wonders if the designer was not a tad bit influenced. After all, we already have seen her do it once!
Kangana In Rick Roy While the colors were different this time, one cannot miss the similarities between Kangana's white number worn to the Filmfare awards and the original Valentino creation from Fall 2006.
