When he recently visited his school after 24 years for a reunion, he relived the memories by visiting the stables, went into the auditorium and on the stage, visited the open-air theatre and posed for photographs all day with his classmates, teachers and the students. He also visited the school infirmary and realized that this was where he had given some of his best performances while trying to convince the doctors that he was too unwell to attend classes or sports sessions.

It was a humbling experience. My best friend, Sandeep Punia, was not there so the reunion was incomplete, but I faced the angels and demons of my childhood and it was a cathartic experience,” he smiled, confiding that he also met his school sweetheart, Charlene Shackleton, a former beauty queen, and spent time chatting with her husband and kids.

He said, “She (his sister) bagged a best actress award and I thought if she can do it, so can I.” He recalled that he spent most of his time in school either riding or acting and at 40, he’s fortunate to be still doing that.

He added, “Ravinder Chikkara who used to run the hardest in cross-country races before running out of breath, killed seven terrorists during the Kargil war before taking his last breath. Sandeep Palarwal was a MIG fighter pilot who died during a flying exercise. There are several others who are commanding officers in the army today, including Brigadier Colonel Ravinder Khatri, who was in my sister Anjali Hooda Sanghwan’s classmate. He was at the reunion too.”

He may have shared screen space with superstars and done some great critically acclaimed work in Indian cinema. Amidst work commitments, Randeep Hooda decided to unwind a little and decided to visit his school after 24 years, Motilal Nehru School of Sports Rai (MNSS Rai).
While counting on his memories when asked if he was a notorious student, he admitted that some of his seniors, including his house captain, Satish Singroha, had beat him black and blue for turning up a minute late or answering back. “Ravinder was unapologetic about it, pointing out that I was too hot-headed and high and needed a hammering, the discipline having made me a better person,” said Randeep reminiscing about childhood memories.
