While the inseparable bond between Bollywood and cricket has been a well known fact for years, there was a small fan moment while Amitabh Bachchan was shooting for Piku in Kolkata. Veteran and popular cricketer Sourav Ganguly visited the sets of the film and was accompanied by renowned sitarist Niladri Kumar during the shoot.
Amitabh who was dressed in his character, in a checkered Nehru jacket, kurta, grey hair and his infamous paunch for the film, was thrilled to spot his visitors and posted the pictures of the same on his blog. He also expressed his excitement saying, "There have been some greats on set today .. the great and legendary Saurav Ganguly, India's pride on the Cricket field .. And then the maestro Niladri Kumar, the incredible sitarist, one whose music remains permanently on my music platforms and systems .. Such an honour to be in their company .."
And finally we also got a glimpse of the Piku selfie. The film which brings together one of the most unique star cast, had all the actors along with their director Shoojit Sircar posing for the picture. Amitabh Bachchan too added about it on his blog, "The season of 'selfies' continues with the cast of 'PIKU' .. director Shoojit and all .. wonder what the next invention for the replacement of a 'selfie' shall be .."
Produced by MSM Pictures, Piku also stars Moushumi Chatterjee and Jishu Sengupta and it is slated to release on April 30, 2015.
Amitabh Bachchan who will be portraying the role of a father in the film was seen posting many pictures with his on screen daughter Deepika Padukone. And now, though the details of Irrfan Khan's role in the film are still under wraps, we got a glimpse of the scene where the National Award winner Irrfan and legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan were seen sharing screenspace.
Amitabh Bachchan seemed very impressed with Irrfan Khan's acting skills and couldn't stop praising about the actor on his blog as he said, "with the Irfan Khan .. the actor with the most non expression, expression face … such a joy to be in the company of the great .."
While the actor was not only glad to see Niladri Kumar, he also spoke about his unfulfilled wish of being a sitarist on his blog. In fact, just to enjoy the feel of the sitar, the actor was sitting and holding the musical instrument in style as if he is playing it, on the sets of the film.
Talking about it, Amitabh Bachchan wrote, "And then for the shot a small effort at the sitar myself .. been a while since I held the sitar .. magic .. never learnt how to play one and still have no idea .. but just to pretend that I do is in itself such a feel .. Well someday I shall learn and learn to be at the piano and the classical ragas of our music .. someday .. !!"
