Bollywood and fashion cannot be separated from each other. Bollywood personalities today have gone on to become style icons and no major fashion event is complete without their presence. In fact, these days, along with the actors, even the film directors and associates are walking the ramp, presenting the collection of their favourite designers. Similar was the scene at Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai this month.

Perizaad, Minissha & Geeta outshone the diamonds!
Diamond jewellery brand Gitanjali presented the inaugural show of LFW with Nakshatra and ace designer Vikram Phadnis’ collection. Vikram worked on the ‘Super Woman’ theme which showcased the exquisite diamond jewellery brand. The show-stealers of the evening were Perizaad Zorabian, Minissha Lamba and Geeta Basra – brand ambassadors of Gitanjali brand. Perizaad Zorabian in black sari, Minissha Lamba in halter-neck dress and Geeta Basra in an opulent lehenga, blouse and dupatta showcased the most eye-catching diamond sets from the Gitanjali Collection.
The six-day fashion festival ended with Narendra Kumar’s collection ‘Free Spirit’. The spectators were in for yet another pleasant surprise on this closing event, as the four Lakme brand ambassadors walked the ramp with Kumar. Katrina Kaif’s bright blue-and-glod number was inspired by the Chinese kimono. Raima Sen sported an empire-waist gown in metallic bronze. Vipasha Agarwal – the new face of Lakme and also Bollywood debutante wore an adorable bubble-dress in baby blue. Kumar’s collection was in par with the international standards, ending the Lakme Fashion Week on a sweet note.
Glamorous Isha Koppikar appeared in a flowing A-line velvet skirt and a strappy blouse, looking like a princess in Anita Dongre’s show. Anita’s collection was influenced by the Carnaby Street look of the 60’s. Her colors were very controlled – brown, grey and black with flashes of white for choirboy collars, cuffs and belts. She showcased tunics, fitted trousers, jackets, wide palazzos. Anita gave the most feminine touches to her garb with fine embroidery.
But the real specialty was that she designed bold gowns for women using men’s fabrics.
Known for his outstanding work in Bollywood and the fashion world, designer Vikram Phadnis made his friend, colleague Manish Malhotra walk the ramp for his show at Lakme Fashion Week on Friday. Manish appeared in a comfort-fit velvet jacket followed by a one-button vent less jacket for evening wear. Amrita Arora’s appearance was a sweet surprise for the spectators. The Bollywood hottie was wearing a black taffeta gown with panels of zardosi embroidery on the borders.
Bollywood diva Sushmita Sen’s walk along with her adorable daughter Rene was a pleasant surprise for one and all present at the Neeta Lulla’s show. Inspired by a very strong social cause of emancipation of the girl child, Neeta Lulla showcased various stages in an Indian woman's life with a lot of admiration and grace. She has experimented with solid colors and prints in soft feminine fabrics to match the theme of her collection.
