2011 was always going to be a crucial year for Shah Rukh Khan as 2 of his big films namely Ra.One and Don 2 were slated for release. SRK left no stone unturned in marketing his home production Ra.One and even though the film took a bumper opening courtesy the Diwali festive period, King Khan did receive a lot of flak from some sections of the audience who weren't too pleased with this superhero flick. Nevertheless Ra.One did cross the coveted Rs.100 crore nett mark. SRK's second big release Don 2 also had a lot of expectations considering it marks Farhan Akhtar's return to direction after a gap of almost 6 years. The film which opened only recently has been doing well and in the days to come, should be able to cross Rs.100 cr nett. Audience too seemed to have liked King Khan more as Don rather than playing the superhero G.One. Besides these two releases, SRK's Red Chillies also had Always Kabhi Kabhi directed by Roshan Abbas which starred four relative newcomers. However, the film sank without a trace. Nevertheless, this year will be a landmark year for SRK in more ways than one.

The year began on a positive note for Aamir Khan as his home production Dhobi Ghat got a lot of critical acclaim. Directed by his wife Kiran Rao, Dhobi Ghat was aimed strictly at the hoi polloi who did accept the film with open arms. Aamir's performance as the reclusive painter Arun too was perfection personified as is always the case. The film didn't take the BO by storm but did manage to reach out to its target audience. In the month of July, AK, once again showed why he is known as the Marketing Genius with Delhi Belly. The film, with its catchy promos, shock value and that killer of a song 'Bhaag DK Bose' redefined Bold like never before and was loved by the critics and audiences alike making it one of the biggest success stories and much of that credit should go to Aamir Khan even though he only featured in a cameo as 'Disco Fighter'.

After an unimpressive 2010, Hrithik Roshan bounced back this year with Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Delivering a performance that was beautifully restrained, Duggu won back the audiences applause and love something which had eluded him in his last two films Kites and Guzaarish. The film worked at the Box Office and surely must have been a big sigh of relief for Hrithik. The actor ended the year with a surprise cameo act in Farhan Akhtar's Don 2 which was also loved by one and all.

Now that 2011 has come to an end, its time to take a trip down memory lane and find out how the year has been for our B-town actors and actresses. In this first part, Bollywood Hungama's Nikhil Ramsubramaniam looks at how the Top 7 Superstars fared at the Box Office (B.O.) this year.

Salman Khan - (10/10)

After the Dabangg phenomenon which swept the nation last year, all eyes were on Salman Khan to see if he could repeat the magic once again this year. Salman's first release was the Anees Bazmee directed Ready which, like predicted, hit the bulls-eye easily crossing well over Rs.100 crore nett. Soon after, Sallu's big Eid release Bodyguard shattered B.O. records by touching almost Rs.150 crore nett and becoming the all time second highest grossing film after 3 Idiots. Salman's Midas touch rubbed off even on his maiden home production Chillar Party which did decently well at the B.O. What's more, Sallu's stint on the small screen as the host of Bigg Boss- 5 too won him the accolades and garnered TRP's for the channel. Needless to say this has been one phenomenal year yet again for Salman Khan.

Ranbir Kapoor (8.5/10)

It wouldn't be wrong to state that one of the year's best performances came from an actor who many hail as the Gen-Next Superstar. Yes we are indeed talking about Ranbir Kapoor who left us all spellbound with his act in Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar. RK Jr. hit all the right notes portraying the dimwit Janardhan Jakhad as well as the angst-ridden Rockstar Jordan. The film not just earned critical acclaim but even worked at the Box Office. Now all that's left is for Ranbir to sweep all the Best Actor awards come 2012.
