My Friend Ganesha 2
Strengths
- A section of kids may just about get enthused to see Baby Ganesha on the big screen
- Coming together of Live and animation action is a unique attempt
Weaknesses
- The film is seemingly rushing forward to a release in spite of zero publicity so far
- Film's part 1, My Friend Ganesha, is hardly a cult animation flick to warrant a sequel/second part
- The film doesn't have any saleable names to boast of
- The film is releasing in a lean period with neither school holidays nor festive season on to help it reach out to it's target audience - Children!
- Traditionally, with an exception of Hanuman, no other animation film has enjoyed immense viewership at theaters. Consecutive box office failures in the form of Bal Ganesha, Hanuman Returns, Ghatothkach and Dashavatar have only contributed to this poor trend.
- Film's director Kabeer Kaushik. He is the same man who made the wonderful Sehar, a few years back and gave Arshad Warsi the best role of his career.
- Terrific supporting star cast of Danny Denzongpa and Irrfan Khan
Weaknesses
- Film's title. For those not closely clued in to the film's promotion, it is hard to gauge whether Chamku tells the serious tale of a village simpleton or is it a comedy? Fact is that it is an action-drama (well, that's what one believes so!)
- The promos have a strong Bicchoo, Badal, Kismat hangover
- Forgettable music. Except for 'Aaja Milke' (which is fair), nothing else excites
- Bobby Deol is going through a terribly rough patch. He has done well in each of his five films released last year (Shakalaka Boom Boom, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Apne, Naqaab, Nanhe Jaisalmer) but only Apne managed to be a success (A Deol family reunion on celluloid).
- Priyanka Chopra has lost the momentum over the months gone by, more so after Love Story 2050
Six notable movies releasing on a single Friday. And that too right after 3 major films arrive (Singh Is Kinng, Bachna Ae Haseeno, God Tussi Great Ho) in the fortnight gone by. Now this is not something, which happens every year!
However, late August this would pretty much be the case with the arrival of C Kkompany, Chamku, Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam, Mumbai Meri Jaan, My Friend Ganesha 2 and Phoonk. At Bollywood Hungama, we present an exclusive Strength and Weakness analysis on each of the 6 films and from there on leave it to the audience to judge the end project and it's box office prospects. Well, read on…
C Kkompany
Strengths
- Film's spoof theme, which takes on Ramu's D Company. A trio of simpletons turning out to be the biggest threat to the underworld forms an interesting premise.
- Tusshar Kapoor has done well when it comes to comic multi starrer comedies. His recent One Two Three was fun while earlier too Tusshar has tasted success with Golmaal, Kya Kool Hai Hum and Dhol.
- Item numbers picturized on Celina Jaitley ('Speaker Baje') and Sanjay Dutt (Title song). Celina sizzles and Sanju baba wins hearts yet again.
- Debutant director Sachin Yardi was also the writer of Kya Kool Hai Hum (as well as National award winning Traffic Signal)
- Special appearances by Karan Johar, Mahesh Bhatt, Ekta Kapoor
Weaknesses
- A film starring Tusshar Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Rajpal Yadav can't be expected to take a huge opening and relies mainly on word of mouth. With 5 other films for company, the film has to be an absolute laugh riot to entice viewers.
- There have been quite a few apology of a comedy that have been churned out this year. Mere Baap Pehle Aap, Krazzy 4, Money Hai Toh Honey Hai etc. have been so bad that audience may well be wondering if it is really worthwhile to give yet another comedy a dekko!
- Raima Sen. The girl is talented but in a hardcore commercial film like C Kkompany, she has been forced to stay on the sidelines.
- Mallika Sherawat sizzles like never before. If one thought that, she had left her Khwahish and Murder days behind then watch out for her MGMEA act. She has easily graduated to Level NEXT though changing her persona from being seductive to comic and still exuding oomph!
- A catchy title. It immediately registers attention and makes one ask the question - 'What is it about?'
- Coming together of superb actors like Rahul Bose, Kay Kay Menon, and Paresh Rawal along with Mallika in a loud comedy. One waits to see what the quartet ends up doing on screen.
Weaknesses
- Sanjay Chhel's last directorial outing was Kya Dil Ne Kaha. Scary enough!
- The film doesn't give an impression of a strong storyline per se and appears to be a collage of gags
- Mallika has recently encountered a blow with the under-performance of Ugly Aur Pagli
- Soha Ali Khan, Madhavan, Irrfan Khan, Kay Kay Menon, and Paresh Rawal. A bunch of terrific actors coming together in a space of 2 hours. Do we need to say more?
- UTV had turned their last small film, Aamir, into a sweet success with smart packaging and innovative marketing. Mumbai Meri Jaan could well be the next. Also, UTV never had it better with Jodhaa Akbar and Race being super hits and Kismat Konnection too turning out to be a winning preposition, all in one single year.
- Director Nishikant Kamat makes his Bollywood debut after much acclaimed Marathi film Dombivli Fast
- For the thinking audience who look for alternate cinema, Mumbai Meri Jaan is yet another offering on the platter
Weaknesses
- Only 3 week window for the film's promotion. It worked with Aamir since it was the only release with Sarkar Raj. However, it is a little scary this time around since 5 more films release alongside.
- Absolutely no idea given so far about the 'theme' of the film. Also, the film's target audience lies strictly in metropolitan cities with Mumbai being on the forefront (courtesy the title)
- Soha Ali Khan. The girl seriously needs a fan base built up for her in spite of a Rang De Basanti and Khoya Khoya Chand behind her.
