Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones’ kiss in Twisters was cut due to Steven Spielberg’s advice: “Would be sort of unrepresentative of the right goal at the end of the movie”

en Bollywood News Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones’ kiss in Twisters was cut due to Steven Spielberg’s advice: “Would be sort of unrepresentative of the right goal at the end of the movie”

Spielberg's vision was clear: to focus on the characters' shared passion for storm chasing rather than a romantic entanglement.

Twenty-eight years after the iconic Twister swept audiences off their feet, a new generation of storm chasers is taking center stage. Twisters, the adrenaline-pumping sequel, has arrived, promising a heart-stopping journey into the heart of nature's most destructive force. Helmed by the Oscar-nominated director Lee Isaac Chung, known for his poignant drama Minari, the film marks a surprising departure into the realm of high-octane action. Chung brings his signature touch of human drama to the story, infusing the spectacle with emotional depth.

At the core of Twisters is a dynamic duo: Daisy Edgar-Jones as the haunted yet determined Kate Cooper, and Glen Powell as the charismatic and reckless Tyler Owens. Their contrasting personalities create an electric tension that drives the narrative forward. Kate, a former storm chaser scarred by a traumatic past, now finds herself drawn back into the eye of the storm. Tyler, a social media sensation, thrives on the thrill of the chase. Their paths collide as they embark on a perilous mission to predict and potentially control the unpredictable power of tornadoes.

While the film itself has been a box office success, one particular scene has ignited a storm of its own on social media. A passionate kiss between Edgar-Jones and Powell was captured on set but ultimately left on the cutting room floor. The decision, as revealed by the actors, was influenced by none other than Steven Spielberg, the executive producer of both Twister and Twisters.

Spielberg's vision was clear: to focus on the characters' shared passion for storm chasing rather than a romantic entanglement. “I think there's something really wonderful about it feeling like there's a continuation," Edgar-Jones explained in an interview with Collider. “This isn't the end of their story.”

Powell echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the film's climax should be about Kate's reconnection with her love for storm chasing, not a romantic resolution. Powell said, “I feel like a kiss would be sort of unrepresentative of the right goal at the end of the movie. And it is a good Spielberg note. It’s why that kid is still in this game. It’s amazing.”

The film delivers jaw-dropping sequences of tornadoes wreaking havoc, but it also explores the emotional toll of living on the edge. The supporting cast, including Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, and Sasha Lane, adds depth and complexity to the story. The film released in theatres on July 18.
