TWICE’s Nayeon shines bright in pop-tastic solo debut IM NAYEON – Album Review

South Korean female group TWICE’s singer Nayeon is the first member to venture solo. The musician released her solo debut album Im Nayeon on June 24, 2022. The self-titled album is a good play on 'Im' which can also be read I'm Nayeon but also her full name Im Nayeon. Consisting of 6 tracks, the mini-album stays true to the essence of TWICE is but also sheds spotlight on the charisma of the vocalist. POP
The title of the track captures the essence of the song. The concert audience sounds in the song give the listeners an impression that they are watching the performance live. Pop's beats are layered such that each layer enhances the experience. Nayeon's 'Pop Pop Pop' has a catchy tune to it which is bound to become an earworm.

NO PROBLEM ft. FELIX OF STRAY KIDS
‘No Problem’ is a jazzy electro number. Featuring Felix of Stray Kids, the song presents a smooth blend of Nayeon's bright vocals and Felix's deep rap verses.

The song is a romantic number with an edge to it. The only English language track from the album, No Problem showcases her vocal capabilities with a flair.

LOVE COUNTDOWN ft. Wonstein
Wonstein and Nayeon's duet is a treat for the lovers of R&B romance tracks. ‘Love Countdown’ is like a walk down the path of summery feelings of love. It speaks about those butterflies in a stomach that one gets in the initial stages of a romance

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
Birthday song just got a new spin with ‘Happy Birthday To You’. The alternate music gives a good edge to Nayeon's breathy vocals. The song flows in a polished manner and ends on a bright note.

CANDY FLOSS
Candy Floss is a sugary sweet song like its title. The lyrics compare each if the lover's attributes to that of candy floss - sweet, tasty and addicting. There is a slight element of fantasy in the lyrics clubbed with pop music which makes one go back to the song for more.

ALL OR NOTHING
All or Nothing is a soft acoustic pop song. Nayeon brings the album to a conclusion with All or Nothing. After singing about love and it fluttery feelings, Nayeon sings about love with a conviction in the lyrics. She also proved her mettle as a songwriter by being the solo writer of All or Nothing.

TWICE's Nayeon made a gleaming solo debut with Im Nayeon. The 26-year-old singer made a mark with half a million pre-orders for the self titled mini-album, making her the so far only female soloist of 2022 to have achieved this mark. The bubblegum pop nature of songs continues with her solo album as well, but they carry a different flavour which is truly Nayeon. Like the netizens are saying – it is the most K-pop album in a while – and why not. TWICE is known for their vibrant nature of music and Nayeon’s charisma is through the roof. The vocalist's bubbly nature and demure outlook are reflected in each track. Nayeon's debut also gives a brilliant hope of solo releases from other TWICE members.
