Ratna Pathak Shah played a wide range of characters during her four-decade-long acting career. In fact, her exemplary performance as Maya Sarabhai in the TV series Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai made her a household name. Over the years, a section of the audience has adored the actress for her strong opinion on various matters. This time, she has spoken about the new age actors and how the entourage business has made them dependent and affected their thought process a lot.

It all happened during her conversation with Film Companion, where she appeared for the promotions of her recently released web series, Happy Family: Conditions Apply. The veteran actress candidly asserted, “I've seen actors on a plane, who won't even ask for a cup of coffee. The coffee is brought by the assistant. The assistant opens the cup. Actor takes a sip and hands it back to the assistant. What are you? A 3-month-old child? Ki cup bhi nahi pakad sakte aap apna haath mai? Iss tarah ka dependence! Life is more than just this. I find that so dangerous!”

Explaining her take, she added, “And I've seen several good actors who have been affected adversely by this entourage business. Workout ki team jarahi hai aapki! Aapka saaara gym equipment jaraha hai. Aur phir aap karte kya hain? Performance aap dekho. Is that a valuable payoff? How much is that film earning after all the gym equipment, caterers and chefs? Did the film make the money that was put into it? Vo pehle dekho. So, it's very silly. It has always been very silly.”

Happy Family: Conditions Apply is a light-hearted, family comedy, which follows the lives of Dholakias, a joint family of four generations living together in Mumbai. The Dholakias are vibrant characters with unique quirks, which land them in situations that are in equal parts hilarious and peculiar. It’s in these imperfections that they find the perfect bond that keeps them together.

Besides Ratna, the series also features Raj Babbar, Ayesha Jhulka, Atul Kulkarni, Sanah Kapur, Meenal Sahu, Raunaq Kamdar, and Ahaan Saboo. Four episodes from the 10-episode have been released on Prime Video. Every Friday two new episodes of the series will be released on the streaming service until March 31.
