Over the years, producer Ritesh Sidhwani and his banner, Excel Entertainment, have provided a number of memorable and successful films. Continuing their run at the box office, Excel Entertainment and director Gurmmeet Singh gave another hit to the industry in the form of Mirzapur The Movie. Featuring an ensemble cast led by Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, and Divyenndu, the film turned the iconic franchise into a big screen extravaganza drawing massive crowds to the theatres.
While the cinematic adaptation delivered the same gritty drama, action, and unforgettable characters that fans fell in love with, its soul remains rooted in a passion for classic Hindi cinema. Talking about the creative choices that went into building this world, producer Ritesh Sidhwani shared an interesting peek into how legendary classics like Amar Akbar Anthony subtly found their way into the story. It was planned as a subtle reference: Just like 3 leading men were the faces of Amar Akbar Anthony, similarly, Pankaj Tripathi (Kaleen Bhaiya), Divyenndu (Munna Bhaiya), and Ali Fazal (Guddu Bhaiya) stood as the three main men from the film.
Highlighting the references added in the film, Ritesh Sidhwani shared: “There are certain references that Guru (Gurmmeet Singh) has put in Mirzapur from Amar Akbar Anthony. So yeah, we’ve grown up watching those films and adding references from it was iconic.”
With Mirzapur The Movie’s success, these little references stand as a tribute to the cinema that raised a generation of filmmakers.
