Mithila Palkar’s career got a boost as she bagged Priyadarshan’s big-budget extravaganza, Bhooth Bangla, co-starring Akshay Kumar, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi and many others. A week before the film’s release on April 17, Mithila revealed through an Instagram post that it was Priyadarshan’s daughter, Kalyani Priyadarshan, who recommended the former for this film. Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to Mithila about it and a lot more.
When asked when and how Mithila Palkar met Kalyani Priyadarshan and how the conversation about Bhooth Bangla came up. Mithila surprised us as she revealed, “We have not met! That’s the most beautiful part (smiles). We have tried a lot. Whenever I am in Chennai, I inform her, while whenever she’s here (in Mumbai), she lets me know. Despite tremendous coordination, we haven’t met. We have seen each other’s work and we admire it. That’s how we are friends.”

She continued, “Yet, she recommended my name out of love that she has for me. She trusted that I’ll fit the role and she knew that her father was looking to cast for this particular role. So, based on the trust factor, she told her father about me and that’s a big deal. I am really grateful to her.”
Kalyani Priyadarshan commented on Mithila’s post and wrote, “Listen! All I told my dad was that I’m a fan! I didn’t do anything more…And I can’t wait to see you in the film!” Mithila Palkar admitted that she was floored by her reply, “That’s so sweet of her. She herself is doing such incredible work and yet also cheerleading for us. I have been a fan of her film Hridayam (2022) and, of course, Lokah (2025).”
Bhooth Bangla is Mithila Palkar’s second film in 2026. Her earlier film was Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos in which she played a girl who can’t dance well. Her dance scenes left the audience in splits.

Mithila laughed when we brought this up and she said, “I don’t know how I managed. Vir Das told me to dance that way. But I am musically inclined. So, it’s difficult for me to dance off beat; my brain doesn’t allow me to do so. I told them, ‘Aap off-beat gaana baja do’. Then the choreographers came up with the steps.”
March this year marked the 10th anniversary of her viral cup video. It was this video that helped the industry notice Mithila Palkar, after which there was no looking back for her.
Mithila Palkar opened up about that episode, “Firstly, I didn’t know what virality meant. We were too new for it. 2016 was the beginning of all of this. I did not anticipate such a reaction. I still remember the time I uploaded it. And then what happened was insane. It’s a moment I would love to keep reliving. It was so not anticipated. I had just created a YouTube account and only uploaded it for fun. I was experimenting with it and I thought ‘Dekhte hai logon ko kaisa lagega’.”
She continued, “After the video went viral, I started getting introduced as a singer! I had to correct people that I am here to be an actor. It was a different time and it was too much fun (smiles).”
Mithila Palkar has often expressed the desire to essay a negative role. Has she finally been offered a role on those lines? The actress answered, “Not yet. I would really like to play a character with an innocent face who creates all the problems (laughs).”
