Bhooth Bangla has been released today, and one actor who makes her presence felt in this multi-starrer horror comedy is Mithila Palkar. As Meera, the sister of Arjun (Akshay Kumar), she has a crucial role and is also a part of the much-loved ‘Behen darr gayi’ scene in the film. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, the talented and beautiful actress spoke about the film, shooting experience and a lot more.

You attended the premiere of Bhooth Bangla on April 15. How was it watching the film on the big screen in its entirety for the first time?
I enjoyed it (smiles). When you’re working on a film, you lose a certain sense of objectivity and don’t really know how it will translate on screen. Once the film is edited and the background score is added, it feels drastically different. So, when you finally get to watch the finished product, the experience is something else altogether. Also, being a part of the Priyadarshan universe means a lot to me.
You’re scared of horror films. How did you react to the film’s second half? The climax especially, is quite nail-biting…
I was a part of it and so, I was not scared (laughs). I knew what to expect and anticipate. But if I were not a part of the film and if someone had told me ‘It's not that scary’, I wouldn’t have believed that person. Those who enjoy horror films, their parameters about what is scary and what is not is very different from mine (laughs).
But as I said, with post-production, everything gets enhanced. When we were shooting the climax, I didn’t understand the impact that it would eventually create on screen.
You are a part of the scene where Akshay Kumar says ‘Behen darr gayi’. How was it shooting that moment? Did you control your laughter?
I had to (laughs). I was not even told he’s going to say that dialogue. It was a surprise for me. I wish they had told me; I would have been prepared. So, when he said that dialogue, I started laughing as I couldn’t control myself. Since the camera was behind me, it didn’t capture that I was laughing non-stop.
It was too funny. Also, it’s such a cult line from memes. So, it was credible to be a part of that moment.
Irrfan Khan had nicknamed you Binaca Geetmala since you used to sing constantly on the sets of Karwaan (2018). In the same film, Dulquer Salmaan called you jukebox. Akshay Kumar is also known for such fun. Did he give you any nickname as well?
(Laughs) No. It was really lovely to work with him. What he would do on set was that he would get all of us together. Then, we would play Ludo. It was a great way to get people together because between setups, there’s a lot of time. Instead of being on your phone or by yourself, it's such a good activity to unite people in the space. However, Ludo khelte waqt unse bahut paise haari hoon main!
Do you plan to go to the cinema halls to check the reaction?
Yes, whenever my film releases on the big screen, I make it a point to watch it with my friends. My core friend group is actually quite large; there are 10 of us. This time too, we’ve planned to catch the film on Saturday.
