Actor and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt has opened up about embracing independence and self-growth in the years following her divorce, while also reflecting on her journey in the evolving entertainment landscape.
Talking about her personal life, Bhatt described this phase as deeply fulfilling, saying she is thoroughly enjoying being on her own after spending much of her life in relationships. Calling it a liberating experience, she told the Times Of India, “It is glorious. I am enjoying being single. I am as free as a bird now. I am the captain of my own ship. I call my own shots.” She added that this freedom allows her to focus on the things she loves, her work, travel, and simple joys like books and companionship, while also noting how discovering fitness later in life has become almost spiritual for her.
Despite this independence, Bhatt made it clear that her belief in love hasn’t changed. “I will always be someone who will celebrate love,” she said, adding that she doesn’t feel like she’s missing out on anything. Reflecting on her emotional growth, she noted that feeling complete comes from within, and that understanding oneself is just as important as finding the right partner. She also briefly touched upon her sobriety journey, admitting that while giving up alcohol wasn’t difficult, it led her to confront deeper emotional truths.
On the work front, Bhatt has carved a strong space in the digital entertainment world with projects like Bombay Begums, Big Girls Don’t Cry, and her appearance on Bigg Boss OTT 2. While many view this as a comeback, she sees it differently. “My birth came from OTT when I was 17. So, Doordarshan was the OTT of those days,” she said, explaining that the medium isn’t new to her, just modernized.
Bhatt also spoke about the realities of showbiz, especially for newcomers. “Someone needs to tell them that showbiz is not only a glitzy road full of highs,” she said, pointing out that rejection, uncertainty, and self-doubt are part of the journey, lessons that aren’t always taught in film schools.
