Adnan Sami and Akshay Kumar share a memorable musical association, and an enviable cent per cent success record. It began with the peppy ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’ in Ajnabee (2001), followed by ‘Gela Gela’ in Aitraaz (2004) and ‘Kiss Me Baby’ in Garam Masala (2005). Now, after 21 long years, the singer and the superstar are finally reuniting. A week ago, Adnan shared a picture with director Anees Bazmee and music composer Anand Raj Anand, confirming in the caption that he had recorded a song for Akshay’s untitled next, co-starring Vidya Balan.
Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to Adnan Sami for his recently-released single ‘Ishq Tamasha’. When asked about collaborating with Akshay Kumar after two decades, he smiled and said, “It’s beautiful to get back again after a long time. By the grace of God, whenever we have collaborated and done songs together, be it ‘Kiss Me Baby’ or ‘Gela Gela’ or ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’, we have always received a wonderful response. And this one is a great, lovely, fun song. I had a lot of fun recording it.”
He added, “Whenever I tell the music director, ‘Yeh take rakh lena. Ek aur le lo’. It means that I am enjoying the process! I want to keep continuing singing it because I am just having a ball of a time.”
Adnan Sami raised laughs as he said, “Anand Raj Anand knows this part of me. So, when I said, ‘Ek aur le lo’, he started laughing. He replied, ‘Maine pata hai tainu enjoyment hai lekin meri shift khatam hon lagi hai’ (laughs). So, we had a lot of fun recording the song. It’s a lovely song, and I hope people would enjoy it.”

Concert plans
With live concerts witnessing a major resurgence, Adnan Sami confirmed that he has ambitious plans on this front. He said, “We are putting together a whole bunch of concerts in India as well as internationally. We are going through a complete transformation. I really enjoy performing live. The direct connection with the audience is a unique experience.”
He continued, “We have been spending this time completely overhauling our live-show setup. The idea is to offer the audiences a completely new and stylized audio-visual experience. We are bringing in a lot of technology and integrating it with the live performances. It’s a very exciting process.”
Adnan further stated, “The monsoon season is going on right now, and we are essentially preparing for the concert season. The idea is to present some of the older songs in a new light while retaining the nostalgia. We also want to upgrade the overall experience of both the older and the newer songs.”
