As 12th Fail completes three years since its release, Vikrant Massey has revisited the moment he learnt about winning the Best Actor honour at the 71st National Film Awards. The actor received the recognition for his portrayal of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma in the film, marking an important milestone in his career.
Recalling the announcement, Vikrant revealed that he was travelling in South America when the National Awards were announced in India. Unaware that his name was being considered for the Best Actor award, he received a message about the announcement that immediately caught him by surprise.
“When the National Awards were announced, I was not in India; I was travelling in South America. I received a message saying that the National Awards were being announced and that I was in contention. The moment I read that message, I woke up and sat up. It was morning there, while it was evening in India. I had no idea that my name was being considered. I knew that our film was in contention for a National Award and that it had a strong chance of winning, but that was all I knew,” he recalled.
Vikrant's account highlights how unexpectedly the news reached him. Although he knew that 12th Fail had a chance of receiving recognition at the National Awards, he was unaware that he was being considered for an individual honour. The message, therefore, came as a surprise while he was away from India.
Three years after the film's release, the National Award remains a notable moment in the actor's professional journey. His performance as Manoj Kumar Sharma brought him recognition for his portrayal of the IPS officer's journey, further adding to his body of work across films and other projects.
Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, 12th Fail follows the journey of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who overcomes several challenges while pursuing his dream of becoming an IPS officer. The film received attention for its portrayal of perseverance and the struggles involved in preparing for competitive examinations.
On the work front, Vikrant Massey will next be seen in the international biographical film White, in which he will portray spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
