After the past two weeks that have seen collections flag at the box office with releases having a tough time enticing the audience, given the aftereffect of demonetization, this week we see the release of the much awaited and highly anticipated film Dear Zindagi. Featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt the film directed by Gauri Shinde has been all the rage in the run upto its release. But will Dear Zindagi manage to enthral the audience or will it face a similar fate to last week’s releases is the question.
Reports suggest that Dear Zindagi has taken a good start with occupancy rates being pegged at 50%. In fact the film which targets the youth in metro cities has recorded much better opening rates in multiplexes as compared to single screens. Adding to this the presence of Shah Rukh Khan as the main lead along with Alia Bhatt who has developed a connect with the youth has given the film a much needed boost.
On the whole, the strategy of having a limited release in approximately 1200 screens that targets its audience in a more effective manner has worked well for the makers of Dear Zindagi. But with mixed reviews, the film will have to depend on word of mouth for growth over evening and night shows.
