The SS Rajamouli directed magnum opus, RRR featuring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan in lead was on a box office rampage on Sunday as the film has collected Rs. 29 to 31 crores on it's third day to take the opening weekend total to Rs. 73 crores. The movie, which opened at Rs. 20 crores on Friday, has been seeing an upward trend through the weekend as Saturday jumped to Rs. 23.75 crores, followed by an even bigger jump to Rs. 30 crore on Sunday.
The film has shown a grown in collections across the board, however, it's Gujarat which has taken things to the next level. The belt alone has clocked near about Rs. 6 crores on Sunday, which is among the biggest single day total in the territory, similar to what Baahubali 2 did in 2017. The trend over the weekend confirms that the film has been appreciated and a stronghold in collections on Monday is more or less confirmed.
The movie will now be eyeing a first week total in the range of Rs. 115 crores, which is a simply phenomenal result for a feature film featuring two relatively fresh faces for the audience in Hindi belts. Yes, it's directed by SS Rajamouli, who is the biggest brand of Indian cinema, but the ability to do such numbers at the box office needs genuine appreciation from the audience and that has happened.
The movie has got the audience footfalls rolling despite higher ticket prices. The opening was slow on Friday morning, but once the positive reports started flowing in from the morning shows, the audience was not hesitant to pay those big amounts to experience something so unique. There was scepticism initially on the pricing front as there were no reports on the film, but once word of mouth catches on, the film is no longer price sensitive. With negative talk, the results would have been different, but it seems the makers were sure on what they made and hence, the optimum pricing.
RRR will now be targeting a lifetime total of Rs. 200 crores, and emerge the fourth hit film of the pandemic in the Hindi belts after Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa and Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi. Interestingly, 2 of the four clean hit films in Hindi circuits are from Telugu origin.
