Akshay Kumar’s latest release Sooryavanshi has been doing roaring business at the box office since its release over a week ago. Directed by Rohit Shetty the film which also features Katrina Kaif in the lead along with special appearances from Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn was one of the most anticipated releases of recent times. Being the first big-ticket Bollywood entertainer to release post the second lockdown all eyes were on the business of the film. Living up to expectations Sooryavanshi opened on a thunderous note and continued to hold strong as the days passed.
Now on its second week running in theatres, Sooryavanshi has not only managed to cross the Rs. 100 cr mark but has blown past the Rs. 150 cr mark as well. Looking at the business graph of the film, it seems more than likely that Sooryavanshi will end up crossing Rs.175 cr at the box office. In fact, the film managed to draw in a further Rs. 4.50 cr on its second Monday, displaying a very positive business trend. Now with its second Monday collections, the total box office collections of Sooryavanshi stand at a massive Rs. 155.73 cr.
Interestingly, with the latest collections, the business of Sooryavanshi has managed to surpass the lifetime business of Akshay Kumar’s earlier release Kesari that had collected Rs. 154.41 cr to become Akshay Kumar’s fifth all-time highest lifetime grosser. While leading the list of his highest lifetime grossers are previous releases like Good Newwz that collected Rs. 205.14 cr, Mission Mangal that collected Rs. 202.98 cr, Housefull 4 that collected Rs. 194.60 cr and 2.0 that had collected Rs. 189.55 cr, the business of Sooryavanshi has outperformed Akshay’s other releases like Toilet - Ek Prem Katha that collected Rs. 134.22 cr, Rowdy Rathore that collected Rs. 133.25 cr, Airlift that collected Rs. 128.1 cr and Rustom that had collected Rs. 127.49 cr.
Going by the current trend, Sooryavanshi looks set to enjoy another week in theatres unopposed. In fact, it will come as no surprise if the business of the film manages to close the gap to the Rs. 175 cr mark over the next few days. The business of Sooryavanshi in theatres has sent positive vibes through the industry, clearly denoting that audiences are willing to venture into theatres despite the hurdles the pandemic poses.
