The much-talked-about and keenly anticipated Yash Raj Films venture Shamshera was released yesterday. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Vaani Kapoor, the Karan Malhotra-directed film opened on a good note. Released across 4350 screens in the domestic market the film, which enjoyed massive hype and immense promotions in the run-up to its release, was, expected to be the next big thing at the box office.
In this box office report, we look at the opening day collections of Shamshera while comparing the same to previous releases of 2022. Collecting Rs. 10.25 cr Shamshera has emerged as the seventh highest opening day grosser of 2022. Though leading the list are previous releases like KGF – Chapter 2, which collected Rs. 53.95 cr, RRR, which collected Rs. 20.07 cr, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which collected Rs. 14.11 cr, Bachchhan Paandey which collected Rs. 13.25 cr, Samrat Prithviraj which collected Rs. 10.7 cr, and Gangubai Kathiawadi which collected Rs. 10.50 cr the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Shamshera does manage to out beat other releases. In fact, Shamshera has outperformed other releases like Jugjugg Jeeyo which collected Rs. 9.28 cr, Heropanti 2 which collected Rs. 6.50 cr, and Radhe Shyam which had collected Rs. 4.44 cr.
Currently, Shamshera, which has received mixed reviews, continues to see further growth at the box office. Going by the current trend the business of the film is expected to see good growth on its opening weekend. In fact, trade predictions state that the business of the film could see its collections nearing the Rs. 50 cr mark by the end of its opening weekend.
