After the Covid-19 induced pandemic lockdown things have finally begun to return to normal with theatres commencing business. However, even though theatres have resumed, the audience has been rather reticent to venture into cinema houses. Interestingly despite this, the John Abraham – Emraan Hashmi starrer Mumbai Saga that released yesterday opened to a good response. In fact, the Sanjay Gupta directorial managed to draw in Rs. 2.82 cr on its opening day.
In this box office report we take a look at the opening day collections of Mumbai Saga while comparing the same to previous releases in 2021. With a Day 1 collection of Rs. 3.06 cr the previously released Rajkummar Rao – Janhvi Kapoor starrer Roohi claims the top slot while Mumbai Saga that collected Rs. 2.82 cr becomes the second highest opening day grosser of 2021. This lowered collection is being attributed to the sudden resurgence of the Covid-19 virus that sent certain locations into lockdown while in a few other locations night curfews lead to a decrease in the number of daily shows. However, despite the hurdles faced, Mumbai Saga does retain the title of the biggest non-holiday collections with 50% occupancy limitations in a few regions.
As of now, all eyes are on the coming weekend, with trade predictions stating that the sign of Houseful boards outside several theatres is a sign that the film’s business with see growth.
