Well, this could well be the resumption of good times. With Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi being the first big release of 2022, big bucks are flowing at the box office. At least the week gone by has shown that, what with Rs. 68.93 crores coming in. To think of it, the film has maintained an average of near Rs. 10 crores right from the day of release and that's no mean feat. While Friday was 10.50 crores, Thursday was Rs. 5.40 crores and that's a drop of just 50% and that too across 7 days. In between there were some very good days and that's what has helped the film do well.
From here, it's all about sustaining for next few weeks. The immediate impact would be felt with Robert Pattinson starrer The Batman which is a true big screen movie and hence will divert audience attention. On the other hand, Amitabh Bachchan’s Jhund may not impact the film much today but then over the weekend it is poised to grow due to solid reports. Then on the weekdays it is expected to come on its own. Next Friday would see the arrival of Radhe Shyam and The Kashmir Files. Prabhas factor would ensure opening for former whereas word of mouth could well come in handy for the latter.
Despite competition arriving week after week, Gangubai Kathiawadi will still manage to enter the Rs. 100 Crore Club. However, its journey post the Rs. 100 crores milestone would have quite a few challenges on its way. The film has done well enough to cover a substantial distance in the first week itself which has pulled it into the safety zone with some profits to be made as well. Now how big would these profits turn out to be would be known in a couple of weeks from now.
