Finally, more than 100 days after the release of Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryavanshi, it would be Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi which will emerge as a box office success. Yes, there was the dubbed Hindi version of Pushpa in between that kept audiences busy. However, the wait was on for a true Bollywood offering to make a mark at the box office. This has happened now with Gangubai Kathiawadi seeing footfalls coming in for two days in a row.
That was seen on Saturday when Rs. 13.32 crores more came in after Friday had stood at Rs. 10.50 crores. Interestingly, the film saw a jump of 26.86% in collections from Day 1. It’s a good growth for the film and though an even higher number would have been an icing in the cake, the fact that there is growth is a good enough reason to celebrate. Moreover, today is going to be a big day due to the Sunday factor and with word of mouth spreading well around the film, expect the collections to zoom further.
So far, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada production stands at Rs. 23.50 crores* and weekend should comfortably touch the Rs. 38 crores mark. Anything more than that would be an added bonus for the film, though it will take it since the numbers need to keep coming at least till the second week due to the budget. Looking at the trends so far, the recovery is pretty much assured for Gangubai Kathiawadi.
