The recently released Salman Khan starrer Tubelight directed by Kabir Khan has been doing brisk business at the box office. Released across 5550 screens (domestic 4350 + overseas 1200) Tubelight has not been performing like previous Salman Khan starrers that have hit screens around the festive season of Eid. However, despite this and the fact that Tubelight has received mixed reviews the film’s business has seen growth over the weekend.
In this box office special we take a look at the collections of Tubelight so far while comparing the same to the total collections of previous releases of 2017. Interestingly, despite the unusually low collections of the film Tubelight that has raked in Rs. 64.77 cr on its opening weekend already ranks as the seventh highest grossing film of 2017 so far.
Though the list of highest grossers of 2017 is led by the mega money spinner Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion that had collected Rs. 510.18 cr, Tubelight that has collected 64.77 cr comes in seventh after previous releases like the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Raees that had collected Rs. 137.51 cr, the Akshay Kumar starrer Jolly LLB 2 that had collected Rs. 117 cr, Badrinath Ki Dulhania that had collected Rs. 116.68 cr, the Hrithik Roshan starrer Kaabil that collected Rs. 103.84 cr and Hindi Medium that collected Rs. 68.76 cr.
However, with Monday (today) being a holiday, the business of Tubelight is expected to witness a jump, giving the overall collections of the film a much needed boost. All that is now left to be seen is whether Tubelight that enjoys a week’s run at the box office unopposed manages to emerge as one of the top three highest grossers of 2017.
