Surprisingly, despite taking a massive opening, Happy New Year that collected Rs. 22.23 crores fails to beat Salman Khan's release Kick that collected Rs. 34.02. However,
Happy New Year does manage to out beat other releases like the Akshay Kumar starrer Holiday that collected Rs. 19.52 crores, Hrithik Roshan - Katrina Kaif starrer
Bang Bang that collected Rs. 19.23 crores and Sidharth Malhotra - Shraddha Kapoor starrer Ek Villain that collected Rs. 15.68 crores in their second weekend.
When compared to the releases from previous year, Happy New Year fails to beat films like Krrish 3 that collected Rs. 39.74 crores, Dhoom 3 that collected Rs.
38.85 crores and Shah Rukh Khan's own previous release Chennai Express that collected Rs. 25.23 crores, with respect to the second weekend collections.
