For those looking forward to catching up on a family film, there is Goodbye, which is arriving this Friday. The film's plot is interesting as its centered on a funeral of a key family member, the emotions of those who give her a 'bidaai', the age old traditions and the clash between generations. All of this could well have turned overwhelming where audiences would have to bear it all with a heavy heart. However, one has to give it to filmmaker Vikas Bahl for blending it all with humour and instead making the narrative as light-hearted, if one goes by the promo.
In the process of that happening, the film has become more accessible for a larger volume of audience, though all said and done it would still all boil down to word of mouth. The film's opening can't be expected to bring on fireworks at the box office since the very subject has its own limitations. However, with Amitabh Bachchan leading the show and Rashmika Mandanna (of Pushpa fame) making her Bollywood debut as his daughter, there is good credibility added to the entire set up.
Somehow, one feels though that the film could have been pushed even further by means of aggressive marketing and promotion. Since the content promises good merit, a bigger opening day could have been set up as well, something that had happened with Piku, which started at Rs. 5.30 crores. Hence, the reason why the very first day could start with Rs. 2 crores in case of Goodbye. However, by the look of things the film should work well with the audience with the word of mouth coming in handy, which means growth over the weekend is on the cards.
